Those Little Shop Fronts

Earlier this year I started a project on Instagram called Those Little Shop Fronts. This project is an ode to the yesteryear of Australian Shop Fronts, focusing on Coin Laundries and their endearing windows, designs and art.

With so much development going on, especially in Melbourne with its current population growth, these shops are disappearing and making way for large, sometimes ugly and most of the time uninspiring apartment blocks and new shopping districts.

I specifically chose Instagram as a platform to give viewers the ability to have instant interactions with the photos. I enjoy seeing the natural progression of the project and getting an idea of what the outside also really reacts too. It gives me the chance to make people aware of their surroundings and think, stop and look around instead of just rushing about their day.

The project focuses on the architecture and design of the building not necessarily what goes on inside. It’s like a little history project with the Graphic Designer in me coming out. For the near future the project will be staying on Instagram but I would also like to see this project become a book.

Hot Mess @ The Vineyard, June 25th, 2017

So, again, I’ve been a little too quiet on here lately. At the start of the year, I had a plan to post once a fortnight, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside a little bit. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy!

I’ve been building my ‘Those Little Shop Fronts’ Instagram page which has been quite a lot of fun. I’ll also have some photos up in a cafe in Southbank called East by West this week sometime.

But what I really wanted to share with you today are some photos I took of the boys from Hot Mess at the Vineyard last Thursday night. What a great set. They really know how to perform and we came away with some great photos. They’ll be off to the USA soon where I bet they’ll do well.

Here is a link to the full gallery: Hot Mess at The Vineyard

I am always happy to come along and shoot your next event or gig, so shoot me a message! You can find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Hope you enjoy the photos, I’ll be back soon.

A Short Update – A New Project

Recently I’ve had itchy feet to be doing something new with my photography. Whether it be to be doing more event photography, working with nature photography more or finding new projects to run. I’ve now become (just a little) more obsessed with the shop fronts, especially Coin Laundries of suburban Australia.

So now I’ve started a new page on Instagram called Those Little Shop Fronts. Here I’ll be chronicling the sweet little Shop Fronts & Coin Laundries of suburban Australian streets, showing the amazing talent and hard work that goes into the design of the front of the shop, especially the decals and sign writing skills. Check out the Instagram page below;

Good Morning!

So we’ve got less than 2 weeks to go till the RAWMelbourne exhibition Verse! I’m getting quite excited, and feeling pretty organised with getting some extra framing done this week, packaging some more greeting cards and getting set up with Square so I can take card payments.

I’ll be exhibiting some photo’s from my trip to the USA with a few sale photo’s thrown in from around Melbourne. I’ll also have all my greeting cards available, just in time for Mothers Day!

If you’d like to get tickets head here: VERSE by RAW Melbourne, select me while buying tickets and you’ll be supporting my putting on the show! I still need to sell another 15 tickets, so even if you can’t come along and would like to support me, buy one anyway! It will help out a great deal!

Hoping to see a few of you there!

March Happenings

I’ve been a little quiet on here this month, but that’s because I’ve been a little busy with getting my design website updated, setting up new exhibitions and entering competitions!

Gen Engelhardt Creative Redesign

I’ve been needing to redesign my freelance design site for quite some time now, but with working full time, running a photography exhibition in January, another photography exhibition coming up in May and family and social commitments it’s taken me a while.

It’s a great feeling to finally have the new site up and running, it’s a fresher design, pulled back a little and finally tablet and mobile responsive! Check it out below.

Etsy Competition

As a few of you might know, recently I have been going gang busters with my photography. Today I entered a competition on through Etsy to win $14, 000! (Runner up is $4,000) This win would propel me into not just having an online store, but to also start running market stalls across Melbourne, being able to see framed & unframed photos and have a better ability to take better product photography (maybe even hire a studio for this!). So check out the link below and vote for me! The page with the most votes wins!

Event & Live Music Photography

Over the years I’ve had a bit of a varied work life and range of interests. With studying Graphic Arts while working in Hospitality, becoming a Finished Artist and then moving back into Hospitality to go back to Uni to study Multimedia & Digital Arts and now working as a Web Designer & Front End Developer, Photography has always been a love and a hobby, as has music in all it’s forms.

In recent years the Photography has become something more than a hobby, I’ve been exhibiting a little more, but didn’t quite have a sense of direction with it until recently, maybe in the past year or two.I finally started realising that it is my love of the surreal and strange in the everyday urban & natural landscape and the ability to capture this without any computer editing is what I want to show.

I now also use this style of photography when I’m shooting live music and events. It’s all about capturing the moment and being able to show the magic of those moments without using any computer editing and only using the technology in my hands to show this.

Below are some shots of events I had the pleasure of working last year. I enjoy working these kinds of nights, being able to share with the world my view of things but also meeting and mixing with new people.
